Most of you know I'm not one to be outside digging around in the dirt planting a garden. Don't get me wrong, I love fresh vegetables, in fact I grew up on a farm getting to enjoy the labors of my mom and dad's hard work. However, I didn't carry on their legacy...
I went to the grocery store.
I do remember the markers used in the garden and wanted to recreate them in cookie form. This way I will dig around in the dirt, or you might say Oreo crumbs.

Garden Marker Cookies!
These are the next best thing to planting an herb garden.
Plus, you can eat the markers.
Just stick them in a little dirt to mark your plantings.
And even package them up.
I used pretzel bags filled with a little "dirt" in the bottom.
Are you ready to get digging?
Grab your gardening tools and let's get started.
See it in action...
Or take a quick look here.
I used a pencil cookie cutter and stone stamps.
(Link below for stamps and pencil cookie cutter template.)
Roll and cut the marker shape cookies.
Before baking, using the stone stamps press the letters of the of the herbs you want to use.
Next, mix 1/4 teaspoon cornstarch with 3/4 teaspoons white food coloring, stir until smooth.
Paint across unbaked cookie.
Bake the cookies and they will have a wood like texture.
After they cool, sprinkle with a little cocoa powder and brush.
Fill in the names of the herbs with a #1 round tip and black royal icing.
Fill the bottom of a pretzel bag with a bit of crushed Oreo's and tie with jute.
If you don't have a pencil cookie cutter, you can hand cut using the printable template HERE.
It's that easy.
Before you know it your herb garden will be planted.
And ready to go.
Wouldn't this be a fun gift for your favorite gardener?
Or someone who likes to go to the grocery store for their garden?

ReplyDeleteLOL Nothing could be too unusual to find on my blog! :)
DeleteWhat a genius technique for creating the wood effect! With the embossed letters these cookies seriously look like wooden sticks that have had the letters burned into them. I agree with Bearfoot Baker that these are BRILLIANT!!! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a genius technique, unfortunately, I didn't come up with it. I have no idea who did the original as I've seen so many cookies using it. Thanks though! :)
